This course focuses on the complex subject area of contracts and laws relating to the construction industry. Students will gain an understanding of:
- Basics of the Canadian legal system
- Principles of contract, tort, labour and employment laws Federal, provincial and municipal legal, zoning and building requirements
- Construction management related contractual relationships
- Industry standard construction management contract forms
- Industry standard trade contractor agreement forms
- Impact of the authorities having jurisdiction over construction management
- Legal risks associated with managing a construction projects
- Dispute resolution methods
The course is delivered using materials developed for the construction industry by the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC).
