ASSESSMENT BRIEF

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module a successful student will be able to:

1. Utilize key pedagogic principles vital to musical learning.
2. Create lesson outcomes and learning outcomes and devise a program of study.
3. Give accurate and developmental feedback and demonstrate how to identify and assess students’ progress.
4. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their own and others’ lessons.

Assignment Questions:

1. Demonstrate key pedagogic principles within their own teaching
2. Develop and deliver appropriate programs of study, demonstrating consideration of individual learning styles and differentiation
3. Discuss summative assessment methods
4. Provide constructive formative feedback to students and assess progress
5. Write a critical evaluation of the effectiveness of a lesson delivered and provide a number of well-reasoned and well-supported suggestions for improvement

Teaching Project Portfolio (2,500 words) – Individual work

This will consist of a written submission, in which students will:

• Develop and plan a series of 10 lessons and produce associated learning resources. Plans should include lesson outcomes; teaching and learning activities; timing; resources; formative evaluation strategies; student differentiation. The lesson plans and associated resources are not included in the word count.
• Write a critical evaluation of the effectiveness of these lessons, including their own teaching and their application of sound principles of curriculum design.
• Discuss the strengths of each lesson and provide a number of well-reasoned and well-supported suggestions for improvement for each.
• Write a critical evaluation of the effectiveness of a lesson you have delivered, as well as a lesson you have observed and provide well-reasoned and well-supported suggestions for improvement.
