Read Aloud Methods
The review of the literature shows that the second method of reading aloud is text talk that primarily focuses on developing the vocabulary skills of young children (Johnston, 2016). Westby Carol in her 2016 publication, ‘Text Talk Lesson’s,’ elaborates on the propositions of Johnston (2016) adding that text talk technique is used mostly on the primary grade kids and it is performed by reading a story aloud and then picking several words to discuss extensively with the children. Fullerton et al. (2018) in a special report, “Considering Quality and Diversity: An Analysis of Read-Aloud Recommendations and Rationales from Children’s Literature Experts” published in 2018 complements the findings of Westby (2016) and Johnston (2016) noting that text talk’s main values for effective learning are selecting the appropriate text for teaching learners. Other values are establishing definitions that are easy to understand for children, and applying the chosen texts in another scenario for children to relate. The method is also essential and can be effectively used for assisting young children to improve their language skills
