Using Gibbs (1998) model of reflection, make entries on each of the following:
1.′ Utilising good communication and listening effectively is part of the value base and philosophy that reflects a person-centred approach′. Identify one time that you used effective communication/effective listening, and the impact that it had on the life of the person you support.
2. ‘Recognising an Individual’s individuality, diversity, cultural and ethnic needs while maintaining a professional and respectful relationship within a person centered focus.
Reflecting on experiences can help people deal with them better in the future.
Many people find that they learn best from experience.
However, if they don’t reflect on their experience, and if they don’t consciously think about how they could do better next time, it’s hard for them to learn anything at all.
This is where Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle is useful. You can use it to help your people make sense of situations at work, so that they can understand what they did well and what they could do better in the future
