In this case, conceptual framework consists of the concepts that produced a discourse to the specific period and practice. As this research focuses on Holocaust-Mahnmal in Berlin as the case study, four major concepts for this research were defined.
First of all, scholars like Young and Rosenberg defined the concept of a traditional monument. According to their works, traditional form implies that the monument guarantees the stability of the attached meaning to it (a sign or name) by its land-based permanence. Historically, the traditional monument is a permanent witness which will be fundamentally impervious to time and change; Through the prism of critique of modern writers and artists, traditional form is not considered immortal in nature. The basic rigidity and grandiose pretensions of the permanence of the conventional memorial thus condemn it to an outdated, premodern position
