Should include:

1. Physical barriers Eg, noise, environmental stress, subjective stress, ignorance of the medium, time, and distance

2. Language barriers Eg, the mismatch between meaning and expression, use of unfamiliar language, speaking at the wrong moment, interpretations and connotations, error in judgment

3. Socio-psychological barriers Eg, self-image and pre-conceived notions, abstracting, slanting, filtering, closed mind

4. Organisational barriers Eg, size of organisation, emphasis on specialisation, hierarchy, and status, channels used for communication.
