Important consideration on the supply chain management strategies should focus not only on the economic perspectives, but also consider aspects of environmental and social settings (Vagnoni et al. 2017). Environmental considerations are aimed at ensuring that business practices and operations from the level of acquisition of raw materials, assembly, production process, distribution, marketing, and consumption ensure safety to the environment and safeguarding of biodiversity.
Social aspects and considerations should focus on ensuring the relationship between the established business enterprises and the local communities foster and promote safety to the other aspects of environmental as well as economic perspectives of business operations (Zhang, Xing, and Li, 2018). The supply chain management strategies applied by the various multinational companies show inadequacy in effectively addressing ethical regulations and standards required in open market competition. Therefore, further research should be done by both businesses, experts, governments, and local communities. The research should find ways of resolving territorial issues, taxes, tariffs, and quotas.
Other areas that need to be explored as well include the prevailing political climate affecting businesses among different countries globally; and the relevance of employing benchmarking practices to facilitate information exchange.
