In this study, I will be investigating how antiheroes have transitioned from being more
traditional antagonists and false heroes to the loved antihero character we watch today. This
is an important topic to investigate as the world of television is constantly evolving and due
to the sift being a steady one, a lot of people may not have noticed that they no longer love
characters who are represented as being solely ‘good’.
I will be looking into both classic and modern examples of people who present valid research
and ideas on the topic of the evolution of antiheros. Firstly, I believe Aristotle is an important
philosopher to study as his ideas, although historic, can easily be brought forward to present
day.
For instance, Aristotle is still the most quoted writer when it comes to narrative construction
and its relationship with characters, (Charles H. Reeves, The Aristotelian Concept of the
Tragic Hero, 1952) and I believe his ideas on this are important to consider when trying to
understand how the relationship between a narrative and its characters. Aristotle stated that
