Labour education is a very Chinese-characteristic method to promote moral development in China.Based mainly on the practical teaching, it aims at shaping students into all-round citizens through four forms of working.Although it is one of the core educational values in Chinese education system in modern times, it is in practice a relatively marginalized concept in schools especially under the intellectualist broad environment.Pedagogical approaches are not renewed; there are limited resources for students to receive formal labour education from professionals and there are even limited space for schools to conduct comprehensive labour education. Besides, even a great amount of research on labour education in China remains windbaggary and there has been so few systematic research on it so far. This project will focus on a systematic and comprehensive on labour education, particularly from the perspective of its relationship with moral development within current Chinese education system.By exploring what teachers’ views are through open-ended questions, how it is practiced through classroom observation,it would find the challenges and problems teachers may face in current teaching practice, and then develop more suitable and innovative pedagogical approaches based on grounded theory.Further, it will shed some light for other countries on how to promote moral development in education through different educational projects whilst enhancing students’ personal knowledge and skills in current modern era.
