Introduction
The foundation for predictive project management is the effective establishment of the project scope. You saw that the three strategic critical success factors all addressed scope management:
In your work to date, the establishment of a charter covers points 1 and 2 above. The establishment of requirements helps us to detail the outputs of the project – sometimes called the “product scope”. In order to capture all the work to be done, the “project scope” must be identified – this is the work that will be performed by the project team in order to produce the outputs that have been required by stakeholders. This project scope is presented using the work breakdown structure (WBS).
Task
Review the statement of work and the requirements and construct a tabular work breakdown structure using MS-Word. Submit your WBS in this submission area. Please ensure that there are at least three levels to your WBS.
Consider a project where a decision has been taken to replace a series of old legacy systems with a fully integrated patient administration system within a private hospital group consisting of 8 hospitals across Ireland. The project has been launched and you are now underway in establishing the project requirements.
