Reflection on Mental Health Nursing Based Scenario
Working as a mental health nurse has exposed me to many incidents that had a negative outcome, especially to the patients. Mental health nurses are required to ensure that they provide their patients with adequate treatment that would improve the well-being of the patient and ascertain their mental development (Hurley 385). The incident that occurred in our mental health setting that had a negative outcome was patients admission to our mental health facility with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a mental health disorder that is often triggered by an individual experiencing or witnessed terrifying events (Shalev, Israel and Charles 2461). While recording the patient information, the administering nurse failed to record the medical history of the patient and medication he has been using for the disorder. When the patient was offered sertraline, a recommended medication to help with PTSD symptoms, the patient began sweating, increased blood pressure and the eyes bulged
