Role of IT in BPI
The advancement of IT has had a considerable positive impact on organisation business-process design. Implementation, supports and IT become increasingly integrated into every part of the organisational business processes [43]. IT performs three critical functions in an organisation: information storage and analysis, assisting with making business decisions and enabling the business processes to operate efficiently [44, 45]. Implementing appropriate IT strategies within the organisation’s business units can facilitate a particular unit’s improvement of the effectiveness and quality of its operations and services. Integrating IT with business processes is one way that information systems can create an organisation’s continuous competitive advantage. In this research, IT is a critical part of the business-improvement process, and every business operation within the company incorporates IT. Therefore, the business-process improvement must consider three categories: business operation, IT that supports the business operation and the required compliance rules that govern both the business operation and the technology. IT provides additional advantages to business operations, as a tool for improving them and business-process transformation in every aspect of the organisation [46].
