Question:
Argue that Beckett’s work relates to the philosophical topic of the absurdity of time, with reference to Waiting for Goddot and Krapps Last Tape by Beckett
You will be expected to develop a philosophically driven line of argument in your essay and to make reference to modern/postmodern debates, definitions or frameworks.
Remember to think about the following when writing your question:
i. Your question is to be presented as a hypothesis (an idea that you are going to test).
ii. Ask yourself why is this an interesting and important question to ask? How does it relate to the debates we have looked at in class?
iii. What methodology are you going to use and why? In our case this comes down to the philosophical theories we have looked at on the module, and deciding, which are pertinent to your particular question. For example, if you are writing on time, selecting a philosophy that deals with time is a good idea.
iv. What case studies will you select to evidence your argument? Given that this is a 4,000-word essay between 2-4 case studies should be selected. The case studies may be either different works by Beckett or different staging of works by Beckett.
