Each student is required to produce a report of 2,000 words on the
following:
For one of the topics listed below, write a reflective, critical account of the key challenges and
opportunities confronting Inverness and the Highland region.
Choose from one of these five themes around which the field trip is structured:

It is up to you to define these five thematic themes in a way that you think is appropriate and interests you.
In producing your report, you should draw upon evidence from the various places we will visit on the field trip.
You should also draw upon any data or publications from site visits, as well as any primary information you
collect yourself (e.g. photographs). You are expected to complement your use of relevant academic and
professional literature with reference to several specific case study examples. Your submission should be 2,000
words in length (subject to the standard rules for exceeding word limits, as outlined in your handbook). It
should be analytical as well as descriptive, and provide a measured contribution to academic and professional
debate. The mark for the individual assessment will comprise 75% of the total for the course unit.
