Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) [800words]
Mentzer et al. (2002, p. 18) defined supply chain management as “the systemic, strategic coordination of the traditional business functions and the tactics across these business functions within a particular company and across businesses within the supply chain, for the purposes of improving the long‐term performance of the individual companies and the supply chain as a whole”. C.R. Carter and D.S. Rogers International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, 38 (5) (2008), pp. 360-387 discussed SSCM at a broader level involving economic, social and environmental perspective which corresponds to the triple bottom line (TBL) principle developed by Elkington,J (1998), pointing out the importance of identifying social and environmental concerns instead of focusing solely on financial performance of business. Carter and Rogers (2008)
is focused on the focal companies’ perspective, while Ahi and Searcy (2013)
emphasis the integration of different functions, stakeholder requirements. We are now ready to provide a unified definition for sustainable supply chain management as the management of supply chain operations, resources, information, and funds in order to maximize the supply chain profitability while at the same time minimizing the environmental impacts and maximizing the social well-being
