This dissertation is organized into seven chapters. Chapter one introduces the research background and the motivation for undertaking the study. Research questions and methods adopted are also delineated. In chapter two, related literature is reviewed to establish extant knowledge on the technical and economic potential of the technologies used based on the assessment of the emission GHGs and analysis of the mitigation cost curves. Chapter three focuses on describing the residential heating conditions of Massachusetts and the type of technologies adopted. In chapter four, the data and methods utilized in the research are outlined. Chapter five details the collected results based on the formulated research questions, while chapter six discusses them to address the research objectives. The last chapter concludes the study and outlines recommendations for theory and practice. Avenues of future research work are also detailed.
