The present paper explores the concept of managerial effectiveness as perceived by the Chief Executives. Based an interviews with the Chief Executives of the units covered by the study, certain dimensions of managerial effectiveness were identified. These were validated by getting responses from a cross-section of Chief Executives through a mail survey. The study finds that the Chief Executives perceive dynamic and inspiring leadership, results orientation, high concern for people and sense of identification with the company, to be the most important indicators of managerial effectiveness.
