Anabolic steroid
This drug is also called anabolic-androgenic steroids. Anabolic means that the drug contributes to building the muscle while androgenic refers to its ability to increase the sex characteristics in males (Thomas, 2012). Some of the other common names of the drug include Roids, Stackers, and Gear. Such a drug can be prescribed for the treatment of issues of the hormone, like delays in the production. The drug can also be used to treat the conditions that may result in body muscle loss (Thomas, 2012). However, athletes have misused this drug to boost their performance as well as physical appearance improvement in sporting activities. The drug works through stimulation of receptor molecules that exist in the muscle cells to aid in protein production. At the same time, the drug can activate the enzyme activation, specifically the one responsible for protein production while at the same time inhibiting the degradation of the protein in the body.
